Here's How Bad Porn Pirating Has Gotten

As an example of the utter failure of porno producers to police teh internets, and just how bad it's gotten, here's a simple example.
1. While checking my e-mail last night, I get a message from Naughty America asking me to rejoin and giving me the following "exclusive:" "Valued Customer, We're giving you two good reasons to renew your Naughty America membership: Brooke Banner and Jenni Lee. But that's not all. With your renewal you'll also get to enjoy Banner and Lee's other scenes, as well as access all of our sites...."
Fair enough, they want my business. I've subscribed on and off for many years now. Note the time and date of the message, 5 Sep 2008, 19 56 MST.
2. Just for shits and giggles, I plugged some keywords into Google after receiving that e-mail, and was directed to a file sharing message board, where the following was posted:
Note the time and date of this message: Friday 5 Sep 2008 19 29 MST. The obvious key here is that the pirates had already downloaded, coded, reuploaded, made screen captures and posted a stolen version before the producer even had a chance to market to me. By the way, I checked that message this morning, over 1,200 views. Assuming all of these 1,200 degenerates paid the $24.95 to subscribe, NA just missed out on almost $30M in revenue. $30M is two months worth of building lease payments in San Diego, it's the fees for shooting 25 anal scenes. It's a week's worth of cocaine for Powder and Wankus. Even if 10% of those perverts signed up, is $3 grand something to arrogantly dismiss?
Are porno people just lazy? Stupid? Or more likely, incapable of collectively joining forces to combat this. A few months ago, Tanya Danielle complained about a big ol' file sharing message board she came across. Have we heard anything more from this whore? Of course not. Even further back, some porno producers had a conference on how to fight this. Any more from them? Nope. With sales hitting your collective shitter, I always assumed business owners would try and maximize revenues any way possible...especially by thwarting theft.
But then again, I forgot this was porno...where business scruples go right out the door.

In some systems of notation, M = 1,0000 (from the roman numeral.)
$24.95 X 1,200 = $29940, or about 30M.

Okay, easy reader, I'm going to post it again:
Quote:
In some systems of notation, M = 1,0000 (from the roman numeral.)
With me so far? Good. Now do the math, Remembering that in this case M = 1,000:
Quote:
$24.95 X 1,200 = $29940, or about 30M.
Starting to sink in yet, Mahmoud? Good. Let's move on:
Quote:
then figure out how many of those wouldnt subscribe at all if the content wasnt free... or also realistically couldnt subscribe because of one reason or another... and its much lower
I take it you missed this part:

Jim.... in WHICH system of notation would the roman numeral M ever be used in that context. Please feel free to correct me, but i have never seen it used in that context even when i was an engineering student. I know in SI prefixes M stands for mega or 1,000,000...

Gee, Mahmoud, we're talking about commerce and economics in this thread so I'll give you three guesses.
The point, however, is that, once again, you jumped in and made an ass of yourself without bothering to read the posts you were trying to tear apart. I'm guessing that you haven't gotten that breathalyzer installed on your computer yet.

CPM stands for Cost per Thousand ad views using the Latin word mille in the acronym. CPM is one of the most commonly used bench marks in the advertising industry and is not only used online, but in radio, TV and other forms of advertising. Instead of an ad network giving you the total cost for an advertising campaign, it easily states its ad rates at the cost per 1,000 views source

I think we can all agree on two points:
1. Porn piracy on the internet has gotten so bad it poses a serious thread to the whole adult industry.
2. The industry response so far has been almost non-existant.
Now, several questions come to mind.
1. How is it possible that pirates get their hands on all the release almost immidiately after they are released, sometimes even before. Do they buy all the content? Not likely. With sites like naughtyamerica they probably use hacked passwords that periodicaly apear on file sharing message boards but what about the DVDs? They probably use copies sent by studios to reviewers. Would it be too expensive to insert an unique watermark to every single reviewer's copy that would alow the studios to track down the cultprit?
2. Why don't the porn companies try harder to fight back against pirates. Do they simply lack funds and/or will to set aside their differences and fight the common enemy? Or are they simply convinced there's nothing that can be done to solve the problem? Why don't they at least make Mr. Marcus to his site's forum section of that shit? The Valley is probably full of big dicked black men that can take his place untill he actually does something to rectify the situation.
3. If piracy can't be technicaly stopped and more and more people get all their porn without paying a dime, is current prevailing business model viable on the long or even medium run?

as far as the DVD question its easy.... some of the distributors are responsible for the pirating, and for making pirate copies of the DVD to sell on their own.

Hollywood has had this problem for years. They did take some steps but if you know where to look(offshore)it's all out there.
Don't you all remember the PSA type preview of the carpenter and electrician and how piracy was putting them in the unemployment line, while Tom and Julia were pulling 20+ million per flick?. heh

From a Math Measurements dictionary, M [1] informal abbreviation for million in expressions where the base unit is understood, as in "500M hard drive" (500 megabytes or mebibytes). In chemistry, M is the symbol for "molar" (see below). M [2] the Roman numeral 1000, sometimes used in symbols to indicate a thousand, as in Mcf, a traditional symbol for 1000 cubic feet. Given the widespread use of M to mean one million, this older use of M to mean 1000 is very confusing and should be scrapped. http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/index.html

Jebuz, all right, relax people. So Spunko didn't know M = 1,000 in finance sprecht. Sorry. Don't shit down his throat. If I asked any of you douchebags the difference in leverage ratios based on debt/equity and debt/tangible net worth, most of you would fail. So just relax.
Why can't the big porno producers get together and find some semi-computer-literate shitbag who can monitor all this? All he needs is a basic understanding of international law, and a paycheck from all of these people? How complicated would that be for each porno-douche to kick in $4,000 ($4M) or so to keep this guy employed, filing DMCA orders on Rapidshare et. al. to take down their stolen content? Some computer dweeb must regard this as his dream job.
Yes..."his" dream job...i'm sure there's some female who wants to be inundated 24/7 with porn and take the caysh. Which XPT whore is up to the task?
P.S. Why doesn't DB pay for all this? He's loaded; he hates porn. Maybe he could recruit Kelly Wells to do this?

IMO, Spunko asked a legit question, and in a decent manner. This, on the other hand:

If illiterate douchbag is the worst thing someone gets called around here they are either living a charmed life or not trying hard enough.

I thought the irony of Mahmoud calling somebody illiterate without reading the posts he was trying to rip was hysterical. Also proved the point in the OP about the intelligence of some of the folks in porn. I've been called far worse, and often with justification.

I've already had this dance a couple of times with Tritone, HERE and HERE. What makes it worse is that if you go back and check in a month, the number of downloads (and thus lost revenue) will have multiplied considerably. I guess the producers are either gonna get serious or get gone...the choice is theirs.

Typical, Mahmoud. You can C&P Lao Tze with the best. You can work Yahoo Babelfish. And you can affect a British "ou" spelling in an effort to make yourself appear both erudite and educated.
At the end of the day, though, you don't have a clue what you're talking about, no matter which subject you choose to bloviate upon.
You're the male Sasha Grey, Cocksnot. And I say "male" in the most technical sense of the term.

and yet you cannot even catch a simple literary reference.... Let me set you straight. My grandmother doesnt speak english well... which is how i learned italian. Babelfish doesnt even translate that first phrase I studied traditional chinese martial arts from 8-23, and taoism is a major aspect of those, especially when you are a tajiquan teacher (yang and Baguazahng). and i use the ou and s speelings because those ARE the proper english spellings, and those are what I was taught in school... a good private catholic school no less. you really need to control these little meltdowns bro, its unbecoming of you.

And for all of that, you still have nothing, know nothing and say nothing. So you throw out the word "meltdown," hoping it will stick... Let's see, where have we heard about this sort of thing before? Ah, yes: Your "hero."

It has nothing to do with feeling "uncomfortable" being in court discussing porn. It has to do with diminishing returns. Usually, I would imagine, it's just not worth the effort. Especially if you haven't registered your film for copyright, which most porn producers don't take the time and $ to do. This limits what you can recover in court only to your actual damages, no punitive awards.
1. Content can be copyrighted en masse. A web producer could copyright his/her website and its contents without having to pay for each new production. The Associated Press does not copyright each story it puts out.
2. From what I have read, reporting illegal content to file sharing websites is fairly easy, and doesn't take a $20M retainer from Jacoby & Meyers. There are evidently a few webwhores who are very assiduous at this and get their content taken down very quickly.
As for the "M' vs. "K" debate, I've worked for three of the largest banks in the U.S., and they all still use "M" as their notation of one thousand. So just shut it.
